What is the Japanese Homophone Quiz?

The Japanese Homophone Quiz is a free 4-choice vocabulary app for learners from around elementary Grade 3 through junior high school.

Every question in this app is written originally. Learners read a short sentence or meaning clue, then choose the kanji word that fits the context.

Learn by meaning, not sound alone

Japanese has many words that sound the same but use different kanji and meanings. For example, learners compare words such as 会う / 合う, 機会 / 機械, 回答 / 解答, and 対象 / 対称.

The quiz encourages students to look at the words before and after the blank, understand the meaning, and choose the correct expression.
