What is the free Composition Writing Quiz?

The Composition Writing Quiz is a free web app for practicing writing skills in a 4-choice quiz format.

It is designed for elementary to middle school learners and covers topic selection, message, structure, paragraphs, connecting words, concrete details, opinion writing, reading responses, experience essays, revision, and proofreading.

Original writing questions for daily practice

The questions, choices, explanations, sample sentences, and diagrams in this app are original. They are not copied from textbooks, workbooks, drills, exams, worksheets, or official assessment materials.

The quiz focuses on general writing skills: narrowing a topic, deciding what to tell the reader, supporting an opinion with reasons and examples, and revising sentences so they are easier to read.

What students can practice

Students can start with short questions about writing basics, then move on to paragraph order, connecting words, concrete expression, opinion writing, reading responses, experience essays, and proofreading.

Each question asks students to compare choices, so they can learn not only what sounds good, but also why some sentences are too broad, too vague, or hard to follow.

Helpful for teachers and families

This app can be used before writing, after a draft, or during a short review session. It does not replace school assignments, but it helps students notice useful writing habits in a game-like way.

Hints and diagrams show the path from topic to message, beginning to ending, reason to example, and draft to revision.
